Background
The original model of Mothers Raising Children Alone, or MRCA, was a group called Ester that was held in a Texas church where Tyra Chapa attended. This group provided women with a safe, comfortable environment to share concerns and stories, seek guidance and provide inspiration with other women. Ms. Chapa was given the support needed to get her life back on track. Inspired by her experience with the group, Ester was renamed Mothers Raising Children Alone (MRCA) in 2004 and incorporated in 2009. MRCA is based on the knowledge that God has a strategic plan for the lives of all of His children and offers guidance to single, teen, stressed parents looking to build a better life for themselves and their families.
